How To Treat Hives Urticaria Treatments

Hi, my name is Molly. This tutorial covers how to treat hives. Hives are welts or wheals raised red bumps on the skin. And they're itchy. Yes, that does look like hives. The medical term for hives is urticaria. That's spelt URTICARIA. Urticaria. Which is Latin for the sting of a nettle. Just in case you needed to know. But most people call them hives. In most cases, hives are harmless but may sometimes be a symptom of something more serious. So if you've had any changes in your skin, it's always advisable to see your doctor.

In severe cases hives can obstruct breathing, which is a medical emergency. However, in most cases they are a harmless but bothersome condition. The hives appear and disappear quickly, usually within a few hours. And they itch a lot. Fortunately they leave no mark on the skin. Unless you scratch at them. So don't scratch. So how do you treat them In most cases the standard treatment is with antihistamines. Now, there are various types of antihistamines, some of which make you drowsy. These are the ones you want to take at night.

The new non sedating antihistamines may be taken during the day. You may also need to take more than one type of antihistamine to provide relief. Or take several in combination. There isn't one best antihistamine that works for everyone. Antihistamines can be purchased over the counter, although stronger ones need a prescription. For them to work, they need to be taken daily as their action is to prevent hives. Antihistamines don't cure hives, by the way, they only ease the symptoms. Use only the minimum dose to control your hives. Just enough for relief.

DermTV Do Topical Antihistamines Relieve Itching DermTV Epi 233

Music Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause and welcome to DermTV. Really annoying and even distracting itching can be caused by hundreds of different conditions that inflame, irritate, or even infect the skin. When people experience that type of itching, traditionally they use oral antihistamines like Benadryl and chlortrimeton to try to stop that itching. Unfortunately, with the exception of that itching coming from insect bites or hives, the oral antihistamines are just were not very effective at relieving the itching or all they did was make you tired or drowsy because they're sedating. So to try to avoid the sedation people.

Then turn to topical antihistamines. But if you do studies of topical antihistamines, the better well controlled studies don't demonstrate any efficacy for topical antihistamines relieving itchingwith one exception, and that exception is Doxepin. Doxepin though, works so well that they had to regulate it and make it a prescription because not only does it relieve the itching very well but it also causes sedation just by being applied topically. So the bottom line is there are no over the counter either topical or oral antihistamines which are really, really good at relieving.

DermTV How Menthol Cures Itches DermTV Epi 93

Music Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause and welcome to DermTV. One of the most annoying sensations that we experience is itching. What do most people do when they itch They scratch because the scratching stops the itching and makes it feel better. But they don't realize that scratching actually causes more itching and makes it worse. So one of my favorite tips for helping people deal with and stop their itching is to put on a lotion that contains menthol. It makes you feel better, and let me explain why because I think the way it works is really neat.

Itching is a form of pain, it starts in the skin, goes through your nerves, through the body, and up to the brain. Your brain reads itch and you don't like that. Menthol, when it's put on the skin, stimulates a different nerve that creates a message of cooling to the brain and it sends the message to cool in the brain faster than the nerves send the message to itch. So the cooling gets there before the itching and your brain can't read both. So if your brain cannot experience both, it only reads what gets.

Their first, which is the cooling. Itching is an irritaton and so is cooling, but we call this a counterirritant because we prefer the sensation of cooling to the sensation of itching. So the next time you itch, instead of scratching, apply a lotion with menthol, such as Sarna lotion which is available without a prescription in your local pharmacy, and you'll stop itching without causing any harm. Human Allergy Symptoms Caused by Dogs From the makers of ZYRTEC

Man's best friend may be no friend to you if you are among the roughly five million Americans with an allergy to dogs. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog not even those expensive purebreds often marketed as low shedding. That's because dog allergies are not caused by fur. It's dog dander, saliva and urine that trigger allergy symptoms. As dogs play, dander can become airborne. Contact with airborne dander may lead to common allergy symptoms, including sneezing, a runny nose, itchy nose and nasal congestion, itchy throat and itchy, watery, eyes. Avoiding dogs and dog allergens helps.

How to Cure Stinging Nettle with Chickweed

Hey, Urban Nature Man here, and for all my friends who run into stinging nettle, and gotten all those nice little burning bumps when you hit it. there's actually a natural cure and it's a plant that like to grow right next to stinging nettle. here, I'll show you. Uh. This a stinging nettle, so what I'm going to do, I'm gonna pick a little piece, Off. Gotta figure out how to hold this thing. Then I'm going to just rub it right here. On my wrist. And unfortunately I don't react very well to this.

I think because I've been stung so many times at this point that I just kind of my skin's like Eh, whatever. Crap. Oh, there we go. We're getting a little burn there. So you can see the very beginnings of the bumps right in there. I'm going to grab some of this chickweed here. And chickweed is great for burns and bug bites all kinds of things, including stinging nettle. I'm going to take it and just rub it right here. And it's got a sort of a cooling feeling to it.

And it's actually amazing as I'm doing it, I can feel the burning going away. Squish it up real good. So there we go. Uh, we'll check in in a couple of minutes and it'll just uh. The bumps and the redness should just be gone. So now I've been walking for just a couple minutes, and as you can see the redness is gone, there's still a couple of lumps, but they're starting to reduce as well. And all the itching and burning is completely gone. So if you run into stinging nettle, grab some chickweed and rub it on.

Why Do Allergies Occur Allergy Symptoms

Hi! Doctor Bill Lanting America's Allergist Allergies when do they occur How old do you have to be Actually you could be weeks, months, couple years, maybe, adolescence, 20s, 30s, 40s, allergy it's like having a light switch it just needs to be turn on then once it is turned on, doesn't go off unless you actually do something we call immunotherapy allergies usually occur, first, with everyday indoor stuff we call these perennial allergens 'cause they're around all the time and this is the thing that's specially our young children become allergic to first.

And again it could be even a few months of age and can be tested for at that young and age sometimes you think you can't test until your two or something actually you can do it when they're very young even a couple months old and so is the things that you see every day because allergies remember our protective mechanism and they protect you against foreign proteins so what a little guys see animal danders like cat and dog molds, dust dustmite, cockroaches things that you see all the time and then.

The body decides to protect and mixes IGE allergy molecules or antibodies against that stuff once the factory gets cooking though there are more allergies that occur and then eventually outdoor allergies occur so you have to see something to be allergic to it and that's why outdoor allergies occur usually after a few years of age or later in in a child's life or adults life because you have to see the season's remember things seasonal well only out for a couple months every year so indoor outdoor allergies usually occur.

In people as they get older but again when they're very young it maybe just indoor stuff and that produces the skin stuff like eczema or atopic dermatitis the nose or allergic rhinitis the lungs and asthma so what you gonna do about it well that's the thing you should watch our other tutorial blogs buy our DVD's get knowledge and figure out to what we can do the best is cause remember the word allergies you wanna be symptomfree and live a wonderful life I'm Doctor Bill Lanting America's Allergist.
