Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm PreOp Patient Engagement and Education
Your doctor has recommended that you have surgery to treat an abdominal aortic aneurysm. But what does that actually mean The aorta is the main blood vessel that carries oxygenrich blood from your heart to the organs in your body. An aneurysm is a bulge or swelling in a blood vessel. This type of bulge occurs when a blood clot or blood clots develop in the aorta, causing to expand. In your case, your doctor has determined that a portion of the aorta passing through your abdomen the area between your legs and your chest has developed a blood clot. In most.
DermTV What is a Black and Blue Mark DermTV Epi 363
Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause And welcome to DermTV. Everyone at some time has experienced a black and blue mark, which is actually a flat skin bruise. They can occur anywhere on your skin and at any age, although they're much more common in older adults. Very simply, they're the result of bleeding in the skin from damaged or broken blood vessels, which usually comes from blunt trauma, like a fall or just from knocking into things. Usually, the damage is to capillaries or tiny veins, which we call venules, in the dermis, the second layer of skin,.
And much less commonly it's from veins in the fat in the third layer of skin, called the subcutis. When blood vessels are damaged, blood leaks out from them into the surrounding tissues, called the interstitial spaces, and causes the flat black and blue spots which are just collections of free blood and have fancy names like purpura and hematoma. Usually, there is no tearing or breaking of other skin tissues. And the reason that you don't bleed is because the upper layer of skin, the epidermis, hasn't been broken, so the free blood can't get out. The colors go from black and blue,.
To purple, rust and yellow, and sometimes, the area of the discoloration spreads down the body in the direction of gravity, especially on the face and legs. As we get older, our skin becomes thinner and the capillary walls become more brittle, so it's very common for people in their 60's and older to experience black and blue spots from literally pinching their skin or even just rolling over on their arm or hand during sleep. That's called pinch purpura or less kindly, senile purpura. I even have a very wealthy patient.
iCER research highlights Tom Pence and Kun Gou
This is a research project, a relatively new research project for me, in the area of trying to predict the behavior of soft biological tissues. It's about our trachea. So trachea is our airway and there is a disease called Angiodema. Angiodema is the swelling of the soft tissue. Swelling, in a physiological context, has many health consquences. Sometimes it can cause suffocation, or death, so this is an emergency case. Our particular focus is trying to predict and understand the behavior of soft tissue when it swells. I set up the modeling by the hyperelasticity,.
And then we just do the computation to see how the the swelling will close our airways. So that we can create better therapies and better methods for treating these kinds of illnesses. But as in many cases, you eventually reach a stage where you want to do sufficiently realistic and suffiiciently detailed modeling that those standard resources no longer are sufficient to really give a precise picture of what's going on. So it's at that point that we turn to the HPCC. I wrote my code in my desk computer, at the office,.
The computer will go dead. We're stuck, so I cannot continue. And sometimes, the speed is also a big problem. It takes many days to give me the result. So, now I can use the HPCC and put my job there and wait for the result. So, it saves me time, and it saves me computer resource. Also, they have many toolboxes on Matlab, like the optimization toolbox, and the statistics toolbox, and so on. So, I cannot buy all the toolboxes by myself, since it is so expensive. Now I can use the toolboxes at HPCC, freely,.
Define Urticaria What is Urticaria Urticaria Definition What is Hives
What is Urticaria or Hives Find out more at besturticariacure Urticaria or hives is a kind of skin rash notable for pale red, raised, itchy bumps! Hives might also cause a burning or stinging sensation! Hives are frequently caused by allergic reactions! Most cases of hives lasting less than six weeks are the result of an allergic trigger. Chronic urticaria is rarely due to an allergy Which lasts longer than six weeks. The majority of chronic hives cases have an unknown idiopathic cause! Acute viral infection is another common cause of acute urticaria viral exanthem!.
Less common causes of hives include friction, pressure, exercises and sunlight! Wheals from urticaria can appear anywhere on the surface of the skin! Whether the trigger is allergic or not, a complex release of inflammatory mediators including histamine from cutaneous mast cells results in fluid leakage from blood vessels. Wheals may be pinpoint in size, or several inches in diameter! Acute urticaria is defined as the presence of evanescent wheals which completely resolve within six weeks! Chronic urticaria is defined as the presence of evanescent wheals which persist for greater than six weeks!.
