Hive Placement Bee Vlog 164 Mar 8, 2015

Hello and welcome back to The Bee Vlog Today I'm scouting out a new location to put some hives I have a new friend who's interested in hosting some hives for me So I'm checking out his property and looking to see where I can put the hives While I'm here I thought I'd give you some tips on where to put hives and things to think about when you're looking for a location The landscape in this yard is currently undergoing some construction as they make some major changes They want to grow an edible landscape using a permiculture food forest method.

It doesn't look like much now because it's February and things haven't really started to grow yet But I think I found a good location in this yard for some beehives It's going to go right behind me in this corner back here This fence is going to come out so this corner will open up and give me some more room Plus this small garden box here will be removed so that I can put the hives there When you're looking for someplace to put your beehive you need to take into consideration your local climate.

In Portland where I live our summers are relatively short and they don't get too hot And our winters are cold but we get a lot of rain and not really any snow So we want to have a southern facing location so that we have good sunshine on the hive yearround This location here will work perfectly because south is directly that way You can see the amount of sunshine I'm getting here Another thing to consider is accessability You want to be able to get to the hives easily and safely and work around them without any constraints.

I have some hives at one location that I have to climb down a steep hill to get to I've had bees at this location for a couple years You can see the hives way down there, down the hill The only way to get to them is down a slope This gardened pathway is a little steep and sometimes slippery I have actually fallen while carrying a heavy box of bees down here Which is not a good thing Fortunately the bees made it just fine they were locked up inside.

No harm was done except I sprained my ankle So I'm going to be looking to relocate these hives to a different location because having to walk this path carrying heavy items has been dangerous I think this dog's name is Pepsi Say hi to Pepsi.hey Pepsi You got your ball Here, want to throw the ball The hosts here are good friends of mine and they've been great And the bees have enjoyed this location There's a nice stream right next to it For a good water supply But it's just not a convenient location for me.

DermTV Preventing and Treating Foot Fungus DermTV Epi 268

Music Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause and welcome to DermTV. When people find out that they have a fungus infection on the bottom of their feet they act very surprised and shocked because they equate fungus infections, and especially on the bottom of the feet, with being dirty or not being clean and they insist that they have good hygiene and that they are clean. Well, the reality is that fungus infections on the bottom of the feet have nothing to do with how clean you are or your routines of hygiene.

And as a matter of fact, they're just a normal part of life and you can even consider them part of the food chain in this case, the fungus is the predator and you are the food. Consider these facts. Fungi are everywhere. They're in your house. They're in my house. They're in your office. They're in my office. They're everywhere. Fungi thrive on dead skin they do very well nutritionally when they eat dead skin. The bottom of your feet have a lot of dead skin. Fungi thrive in wet, moist, environments. When your feet.

Sweat, that's a wet, moist environment. Add all those facts up and it's not surprising that sweaty feet are an ideal environment and nutrient atmosphere for fungi to grow, thrive and infect. And that's why almost half of all adults have fungus infections on the bottom of their feet. So this is what you can do to try to decrease the chance of having a fungus infection on the bottom of your foot. First of all, exfoliate the bottom of your feet every day. Exfoliation removes dead skin. If there's less dead.

Skin, there's less nutrient material for the fungus to grow on. Powder your shoes or your socks every day to help absorb moisture to decrease the wetness in your shoes. If you sweat a lot, carry two or three extra changes of socks or stockings with you, again, to try to keep things dry. And try to avoid wearing footwear that makes you sweat a lot, like sneakers and boots. This is the bottom line, if you see flaking on the bottom of your feet or if you see little white scales or little white lines in the creases.

DermTV How to Treat Foot Odors DermTV Epi 388

Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause And welcome to DermTV. After a long day in your shoes, it's not unusual to be greeted by an unpleasant odor when you take them off, especially in the winter when you're wearing heavy socks and boots, which both contribute to excess sweating by your feet. To help prevent these unattractive odors, there are easy remedies, some of which don't even require a visit to your doctor. But to understand the remedies, let's first understand what causes foot odor. Foot odor, just like underarm odor, is the result of bacteria.

Acting on chemicals in your sweat. If you don't sweat or there isn't much bacteria, then there isn't an odor. But if there's a lot of sweat or bacteria, it will really smell. Bacteria thrives and multiplies in moist, warm areas, so if your feet sweat, the bacteria will grow and multiply, and the odor will get worse. This is why anything that decreases either perspiration or the bacteria will significantly reduce the odor. For starters, to reduce the amount of sweat, try using your regular underarm antiperspirant. In the morning in the bath or shower, make sure.

You soap between your toes as well as the entire bottom of your foot. Then thoroughly dry your toes and feet and use your antiperspirant on your feet and between your toes. If that doesn't help you may want to try Certain Dri, a very potent antiperspirant. Since antiperspirants decrease the amount of sweat and deodorants reduce the amount of bacteria, if you're still having a problem, get one labeled as both antiperspirant and deodorant, like this Arrid product, to help reduce both perspiration and bacteria. Additionally, after applying the antiperspirant, deodorant,.

Also apply some powder like Zeasorb which further helps by absorbing moisture. If you still haven't beaten back your foot odor, then try applying a topical acne fighting antibiotic lotion, gel or solution on the bottom of your feet and between the toes. It will better help eliminate the odor causing bacteria. And also avoid ointment and cream products. Unfortunately, oral antibiotics won't work here because the bacteria are on your skin, not in it. Extreme cases may require a change of socks during the day and reapplication of the topical products,.

DermTV Itchy Bumpy Red Skin Chicken Skin Or Keratosis Pilaris DermTV Epi 161

Music Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause and welcome to DermTV. If I told you that I'm going to help you understand and treat your keratosis pilaris, you'd say, What's he talking about But if I told you that's a fancy medical term for chicken skin, which is that rough, itchy skin that occurs on the top and outer parts of some people's arms and also on the front of their thighs, then it might ring a bell. It's particularly common in teenagers and young adults, and it itches but, more importantly,.

It looks really funny, because you have all these little white studded bumps on your skin with pink skin in between. It's not dangerous but It certainly looks funny and doesn't feel good. This is another situation where exfoliants to the rescue, because these hard little bumps represent overgrowths of dead cells on the top of the hair follicle. All you have to do is literally dissolve them away with a chemical exfoliant, whichever one you use for your face, you can use on your arms wherever you have your chicken skin, and use it twice a day, and it will result over a period of.

Family of sunbathers forced to flee as thousands of bees suddenly swarm inside their tent

A family were forced to flee a packed holiday beach after thousands of bees swarmed inside their tent. Sunbathers took cover after the huge crowd of insects swooped on Porthmeor beach in St Ives, Cornwall. The estimated 10,000strong swarm descended on a small sun tent and massed inside while the occupants scurried to safety. Lifeguards cordoned off the area and called in a beekeeper to collect the insects. The swarm was captured by surfing photographer Nick Pumphrey, who was on the beach to photograph a surf group in action but found himself among the many visitors forced to leave the area. Mr Pumphrey, 36,.

Said 'I'd just uploaded some pictures to my website and had gone for a lie down on the beach when I heard a bit of a commotion. 'I looked up and at first thought they were flies but they realised they were either wasps or bees. 'It was a bit frightening, they were about two feet above my head and were settling on the tent which was right next to us. I pretty much crawled out of there and then ran.' Experienced beekeeper Mike Leverton, from nearby village Lelant, said he found as many as 10,000 bees buzzing around inside.

The abandoned beach tent. The retired fireman, 69, collected the swarm in a box before taking them to his home where he has around 60 hives and makes Cornish honey. He said 'There was a good size swarm, probably between eight and ten thousand bees. 'When I got there the lifeguards had cordoned off the area of the beach. I scraped half of them into the box and then left the box in the tent for a few hours. 'The queen must have been in the box as when I returned a few hours later all the bees.

DermTV How to Treat Insect Bites DermTV Epi 209

Music Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause and welcome to DermTV. A few weeks ago I discussed how to apply insect repellent so you could get the maximum protection against insect bites but the reality is, whether you're using insect repellent or not some people are going to get insect bites. So what's the best way to treat them Well the only reason we really need to treat insect bites is because they itch and when we itch we scratch and that's the problem. Scratching causes three different issues. The first.

Problem with scratching is that while it sure feels good and helps to stop the uncomfortable itching it actually causes more itching. You get a rebound flare of the itching, so you're sort of getting into an itch scratch cycle. The more you itch the more you scratch, the more you scratch the more you itch. Secondly, scratching insect bites can actually cause dark staining of the skin, just the way picking pimples can cause a dark staining and those dark stains are very difficult to treat. And third and perhaps most important, scratching can cause infections in your skin and.

Obviously that's something we'd like to avoid. So the best way to treat insect bites is first of all, with an oral, nonsedating, antihistamine. You can get Allegra by prescription or Claritin over the counter without a prescription. Second, we want to use mentholated lotions or creams to help stop the itching. When menthol touches our skin it causes a cooling sensation and that cooling sensation erases the itching and it feels much better. If you're at home you can take an icecube and touch it with an icecube. Ice will stop the itching without causing any increase in.

Difference Between Red Blotches and Red Lines DermTV Epi 517

Red blotches and red lines, you may be surprised to hear, have a lot in common, especially on the face. Many people spend lots of time and money looking for products to treat them but are confused because the lines are easier to understand than the blotches. Today I'll clarify their differences, causes, and treatment. Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause And welcome to DermTV. While they can occur anywhere on your body, red blotches and red lines are much more common and certainly much more conspicuous on your face. First, when we talk about red blotches.

We mean flat areas on the skin with a pink to reddish color and usually irregular or vague borders it's like the color at certain places just fades into the normal colored skin next to it. On the other hand, red lines, which are actually broken blood vessels, also called broken capillaries or spider veins, are sharply bordered, straight, curved, squiggly or just randomly shaped thin pink to red to even blue colored lines that are usually anywhere from an 18 to 12 inch long. They may form an interconnected network with others.

So they appear like a net or a curved irregular tic tac toe board. Now imagine what you would see if the broken blood vessels got thinner and thinner. They would actually be too thin to see with your naked eye. Then imagine thousands and thousands of them all pushed together and overlapping This is the aha moment! They would cause a pink or red spot or blotch from all the blood in those thin walled vessels all pushed together. So red blotches are really just gazillions of tiny, mini broken blood vessels,.

All smooshed together in one area. So then it's not surprising that the causes and treatment of both are similar. Both are caused by injuries to the skin, whether from a scratch, pimple, or ultraviolet injury hello sunburn! And repeated UV injuries can even cause spider veins to become visible and grow larger. When it comes to treatment, there is no topical skincare product that fixes or removes them completely. Some products may temporarily reduce their size by shrinking their diameter, but when the product wears off they become just as visible or sometimes worse.
