DermTV How to Treat Under Breast Rashes Infections DermTV Epi 190
Music Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause and welcome to DermTV. Rashes under the breast tend to occur if the skin of the lower part of the breast lies flat against the skin below the breast. That tends to happen at a certain time in life whether it's from age, gravity, from having had children or just from the way that you're built. Whether you know it or not, your skin perspires all the time but when skin lies flat against another layer of skin that perspiration or sweat can't evaporate and.
Moisture accumulates. When moisture accumulates in closed areas, like skin against skin, it promotes the growth of bacteria and other germs and that creates odors and that can lead to infections. The most common infections that occur in this context, on the under part of the breast, are yeast infections and bacterial infections. To help prevent this, very simply, after you shower treat this area with the same antiperspirant that you use under your arms. If that's not effective at sufficiently decreasing the sweating, then take a thin piece of cotton material and place that thin.
Piece of material under and in the fold below the breast on both sides to help absorb moisture. If you actually do develop a rash below your breast usually it manifests as itchy little red bumps with some oozing. Usually this is very uncomfortable. It's probably a yeast infection and the best way to treat it is with milk and water compresses and the instructions, for those is discussed in DermTV Episode 15. In addition, over the counter Mikonazol lotion applied very lightly two or three times a day, will often.
Preventing honeybee decline Ashlee Robisons ACS ChemChamps Entry
My name is Ashlee Robison, and I am a junior, going into my senior year, here at Fort Lewis College and I'm majoring in chemistry. There are several reasons why honeybees have been declining worldwide. The one we're focused on here at Fort Lewis College is the Varroa mite, which is a parasite that was introduced in the late 1980s from Asia and is the largest parasite in North America for the European honeybee. So the Varroa mite is a very small parasite that actually attaches itself to the bee's body.
And sucks the hemolymph, which is the bee's blood and it actually decreases the bee's immune system, so it weakens them and allows them to be attacked by other diseases more easily. Chemicals are being used, currently, to treat the Varroa mite in North America. Thymol is actually used right now as an antimite treatment for honeybees. Thymol is the smell of thyme. The problem is the way that we're delivering the thymol. So right now, it's a solid and it evaporates into the air and the problem is getting it to.
Every part of the hive. Where the young bees are developing, the older bees who are in charge of taking care of them, the nurse bees, have capped those cells, and that's exactly where the mite reproduces. And so we cannot get in there because it's capped over and protected. We are synthesizing a thymol molecule attached to a glucose molecule. So in the springtime, when honey bee colonies are gearing up for the summer honey production season and they're building up the numbers in their hives beekeepers feed them a solution of sugar water.
So essentially what we're doing is attaching attaching a thymol molecule to a sugar molecule and then, once bees ingest that, they have the ability to break that chemical bond, so the thymol then becomes activated in their systems. So when a Varroa mite attaches itself and goes to suck the hemolymph, the bee's blood, then it will kill the Varroa mite. No matter where the bee goes in the hive, the thymol is active in the bee's body, so there are parts of the hive that have previously been inaccessible that are now accessible to treat for the Varroa mite.
I want to know why bees are dying off and I want to know how to fix it and I want to do the research myself. And so that's how I got really interested in this work and why I love it because I understand what's happening at a molecular level and I can help fix the problem. I am looking forward to meeting other people who are working on really really interesting research and talking to them and getting to meet a ton of different people in the chemistry world. I've never been to.
DermTV Itchy Bumpy Red Skin Chicken Skin Or Keratosis Pilaris DermTV Epi 161
Music Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause and welcome to DermTV. If I told you that I'm going to help you understand and treat your keratosis pilaris, you'd say, What's he talking about But if I told you that's a fancy medical term for chicken skin, which is that rough, itchy skin that occurs on the top and outer parts of some people's arms and also on the front of their thighs, then it might ring a bell. It's particularly common in teenagers and young adults, and it itches but, more importantly,.
It looks really funny, because you have all these little white studded bumps on your skin with pink skin in between. It's not dangerous but It certainly looks funny and doesn't feel good. This is another situation where exfoliants to the rescue, because these hard little bumps represent overgrowths of dead cells on the top of the hair follicle. All you have to do is literally dissolve them away with a chemical exfoliant, whichever one you use for your face, you can use on your arms wherever you have your chicken skin, and use it twice a day, and it will result over a period of.
